Can you imagine if…..

Behind the ATM, there is a man who counts money and hands it to the person withdrawing it; Ticket machine, hidden is a person manually checking tickets; At the traffic lights, someone is watching the lights and pressing the switch; Behind the washing machine, someone with a washboard is scrubbing away.

ATM机后面,有一个人专门数钱递给取款的人;

检票机里,藏着一个人手动检票;

红绿灯里,有人守在灯上按着开关;

洗衣机后面,有人拿着搓衣板在吭呲吭哧地洗着衣服……

 

The world is a giant machine, every part of which is controlled by an invisible hand. So, how does the world really work? How do we teach our children to see the whole picture?

世界就是一台巨型机器,它的每一个零件,都有一双无形的手在操控。那么,世界到底是如何运行的?我们如何教会孩子观一隅而知全貌?

为了引导孩子学会如何探索、思考并解决问题,培养孩子批判性思维和独立思考的能力,普林云海国际幼儿园将IB探究融入双A课程开展日常教学,以一种有趣的方式,去探索、去理解、去认知、去联系这个世界。

 

The recent Transdisciplinary theme of the Pre-K is How the world works, and their topic is transportation. Let’s see how they do it.

最近,Pre-K开展了超学科主题“世界如何运作”探究活动,以交通方式作为探究方向,下面,就让我们一起来看看孩子们是如何进行探究的吧。

Tuning in

已经知道了什么?准备探究什么?

 

Everyone has their favorite way of traveling and how they prefer to get around town. As we look around our school we see so many people walking, driving, riding bikes and motorcycles.

We all know our favorite way of getting around town so we decided we should step out and ask the people near our school what is their favorite way of getting around town and where they are off to next and how will they get there!

每个人都有自己钟爱的出行方式。有的人步行、有的人开车、还有一些人喜欢骑自行车或摩托车。为了了解不同人的出行方式,孩子们决定扮成小记者,走出校园去采访路边行人,了解他们最喜欢的交通工具是什么?他们要去哪里?他们要如何到达目的地?

 

Finding out

寻找直接答案

 

We learned about so many modes of transportation, some we can use, some our parents can drive and some we are just passengers of.

With all of the vocabulary we learned, we all worked together to find out where do they belong; in the air, on land or sea! Here we used our fine motor skills to cut out each picture and place it in its proper place.

通过探究,孩子们认识了不同形式的交通方式,了解到有些交通工具自己可以去操作使用、有些由爸爸妈妈来驾驶、有些则是属于公共交通工具,只能通过购票的方式乘坐。孩子们还学习到了不同交通工具在运行方面有着共同之处:这些交通工具可以分为空中翱翔的、陆地上奔跑的、海上航行的。

学习过程中,孩子们剪下与交通工具相关的图片,并根据自己的学习认知将每张图片放到合适的位置。

 

Sorting out

已经获得了哪些知识和经验?

 

Getting hands on is a great way to further our knowledge on different modes of transportation. Here we are making two different modes. One is a hot air balloon, the other is a train.

We worked individually to build our own confetti hot air balloon. We put a personal touch on it by adding our picture. Once it was completed we wrote where we would like to fly to!

We worked in small groups to build the train. We learned that trains can be long because of their many boxcars. Once the paint dried, we were all able to hop on board and travel to our destination.

进一步了解不同交通方式的最好方法,是亲自体验。在老师的引导下,孩子们制作了热气球,并贴上自己的照片,热气球将会带领我们到达何处呢?孩子们迫不及待地想要试一试。此外,孩子们还以小组为单位,制作了小火车,火车很长,由各种各样的箱型车组成,“嘟嘟嘟——”小火车缓缓开动,朝着目的地出发啦……

 

Going further

进一步延伸,我们还想学什么?

 

Here we are going further with making predictions of what car we think will go the farthest and how we can measure it. Once all the cars went down the ramp we had a clear winner!

Why did this car go the furthest? We discovered the heavier the car the straighter and further it went. With the cars going so far it was a great way for us to use our math skills. Adding up the multiple measurements to see how far did it go!

在探索过程中,孩子们总会因为好奇涌出各种问题,例如:“为什么汽车能行驶得又快又远?”于是,我们利用玩具汽车和积木搭建的坡道进行了有趣的测量实验。当所有汽车结束行驶后,孩子们又发现了问题:“为什么这么多车中,有一辆能够行驶得更远?”

老师引导孩子们进行反复测试,在寻找规律和答案的过程中,他们发现汽车越重、坡道越陡,行驶得越远。此外,孩子们使用尺子测量汽车行驶的距离,并将多次测量结果相加。这也是我们锻炼和运用数学技能的好方法哦!

 

Making a conclusion

展示探究成果,我收获了什么?

 

What can float or sink? We learned that a boat is able to float by displacing the water that is equal to its weight. We thought it would be fun to take action and find out what other items can float and what can sink. We discovered coins and crayons along with other heavy objects like rocks sink. Pencils, rubber bands and sticks are able to float.

在探索不同交通方式的过程中,孩子们解决了许多问题,同时也发现了新的问题,例如:“为什么我们可以在神秘的大海上航行?为什么船可以漂浮或沉没?”在老师的引导下,他们开始寻找答案。最后,他们发现,船身内充满了空气,这样通过空气的浮力作用,船的密度被空气密度平均化后变得小于水的密度,因此船能够漂浮在水上。

为了加强孩子们对密度的认知,我们进行了进一步实验,并尝试用复杂的图表来表达实验结果:我们发现,硬币、蜡笔以及其他密度大于水的物品都会在水中沉没,而铅笔、橡皮筋和棍子等密度小于水的物品则会在水中浮起。

 

Taking action

怎么样呈现我的学习

 

Cars need to have a license plate to be able to legally drive on the road. We discovered that they are made up of a combination of letters and numbers. If we had a license plate, what letters and number combination would be pick? Let’s take a look.

随着每次探究的完成,我们都会采取相应的行动,例如:汽车需要有合法的车牌才能在路上行驶,车牌由字母和数字组成。孩子们兴致勃勃地开始设计自己的车牌。

 

Rockets use fire to push down and while the ground pushes back up. We built our own rockets but instead of using fire we used water and air-pressure to launch them into the sky!

“火箭利用火焰向下进行推进,而地面又给火箭向上的推力。” 这是孩子们在探究过程中总结出的原理,他们带着爸爸妈妈一起,用水和空气压力来发射自己设计的火箭!

Our IB unit of inquiry was about transportation.Throughout this unit we explored the different types that are on the road, in the sky and on the sea.

This unit was filled with multiple learning styles. We learned from books, circle time discussions, crafts, songs and even a field trip to a helicopter airport.The field trip was a great way to cap off our unit.

We were able to get a hands on feel of the helicopters and knowledge directly from the pilots that we will be able to carry forever.

在本次关于交通方式的IB探究活动中,孩子们通过阅读书本、课堂讨论、手工制作、歌曲等多种方式来认识和了解海陆空不同类型的交通工具,并掌握了有关测量、密度、压力等跨学科知识。最后,通过参观直升机基地,孩子们亲身感受了直升机,从飞行员那里获得了实用知识,为本次探究活动画上了完美的句号。

“交通工具”的探索活动帮助孩子们从“多角度思维”去理解事物,让他们更清晰地意识到世间万物的多面性。“交通工具的”的探索告一段落,但我们其他主题的探究孩子继续,我们将继续带领孩子们去探索、发现和认识……
